New "Standards" in Business Education

The 2007 graduation standards requirements have changed for students in Georgia which is a move in the right direction for Business Education. The new graduation requirements eliminated the “tiered” diploma which had different expectations for different students. It is my opinion, the change will improve the perception of business education classes in the minds of students and their parents. In the past, obtaining a Career Tech degree was for the non academically inclined student and frankly, not highly regarded by parents and students.
Business education classes prepare students to enter the world of work and to become knowledgeable of employer expectations. The new diploma requires three (3) credit hours, as elective classes, in CTAE field. The good news is students can receive industry certification by following a specific career pathway.

Finally, a new direction and new standards for Business classes that creates a prepared workforce for the 21st century. Hoorah

Check out my blog for all the latest information on the “new standards” for Business Education and the real-life courses that are taught by dedicated and experienced Business Education Teachers.

The new graduation rule could definitely be of benefit to the Career Tech area. Although, there is no diploma distinction or tiered diploma, there still is a divide in the new rule. All the students that plan to attend a university must take two years of a foreign language. Therefore, that still takes away from students enrolling in Career Tech. So, in my opinion, it is still the same concept but just designed to look as though it is unified.

One thing that was mentioned in my school is the perks of a block schedule. It was said that being on a block schedule allows students to have more credits in which they could attain. So, with that, my co-workers were stating that with block scheduling students would have more opportunities to take Career Tech classes.

I really hope the new rule shows some significant benefits for these students. It seems as though higher ups want to make our school systems look great by providing a rigorous course load. However, I think we need to be real about things and try to work with the major problems that already exists.

Wow, thanks for the very informative blog that really shed lots of light on these new standards. It is important that students are prepared for the workforce, and are educated on the expectations of employers. My only concern is that not too many technology are focused on improving this area of education. Technology can provide training, creative eays of visually presenting the materials, and ways to streamline communication betweeen student and educator. However, more developmental tools are necessary.

This is a great blog, I am glad the technical field are finally getting the recognition that it deserves. The student today do need to be exposed to this, because technology is the way of the world now. Plus it prepares students for college, where they will need the skills offered be the new program. If they could get some training that would be great also.
